This form is for filing a misconduct complaint against a sworn officer of the UC Merced Police Department. Complaints lodged against sworn officers of the UC Merced Police Department by members of the public are considered Civilian Complaints and are reviewed by the Ethics & Compliance Office. Not all Civilian Complaints lead to a formal investigation, but all are reviewed. Anonymous Civilian Complaints may require more information to be adequately reviewed or investigated. You have the right to make a Civilian Complaint against a UC Merced police officer for police conduct you feel is improper. California law requires a procedure to investigate complaints against police. You have a right to a written description of this procedure, which can be found on the Police Accountability Board website here. Civilian Complaints and any reports or findings relating to Civilian Complaints are retained by the UC Merced Police Department for at least five years.
